Jewels of the Silk Road is an original construction meticulously hand-drawn with inspiration derived from time living in the Uzbekistan section of the Silk Road, infusing the artwork with a deep cultural resonance. The vibrant and rich colour palette of the Japanese gouache used in the piece reflect the captivating jewel tones prevalent in the traditional Uzbek textiles and tapestries still found along the routes through Samarkand and Bukhara and on to Khiva. These colours aim to evoke the joy, happiness, and profound sense of contentment that permeates the Uzbek people, a nation known for their smiles and laughter.
